Worcester Tornadoes News Release
BROCKTON, MA--- It was another disappointing afternoon/evening for the boys from Worcester, as Brockton took both games of a twilight double header 8-7 and 5-1. The Tornadoes drop to 17-21, the lowest they have been below .500 this season.
Worcester scored first in game one when a Carlos Sosa single drove in Heath Keel in the third. Two more were piled on in the fourth complements of a single by Mike O'Malley, his first hit and RBI as a professional, and another from Keel. That's when Brockton woke up and scored five runs in the fourth against starter Matt Weagle and newly picked up reliever Eddie Pena. The Tornadoes battled back and even took the lead into the bottom of the seventh with more heroics from Heath Keel; a solo home run. However, Clyde Williams matched with a round-tripper of his own in the bottom half, and there was bonus baseball in game one.
Brockton took the first game with a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth from Williams after Santiago Ramirez walked Phillip Cuadrado and gave up a single to Dominic Ramos. Ramirez dropped to 3-2 with the loss, and Brad Hertzler got the win improving to 1-1 tossing a scoreless eighth.
Game two began on a positive note as well when Tornadoes starter Chris Farley (0-1) struck out the side in order in the bottom half of the first. The problem being that the Rox starter, making his first appearance for Brockton, was on his game too. Paul âBuster' Lussier (1-0) was spectacular tonight, facing the minimum amount of hitters through five innings with the assistance of a couple of 6-4-3 double play balls.
Farley was put on the hook for the loss when he came unhinged in the second starting with a solo home run from the league leader in that category Palmer Karr (10). Six hits and four runs in the fourth inning gave Lussier all the support he needed. The other Brockton RBI's came from Melvin Falu, Chris Valencia, and Cuardado. Cuadrado again singled home Clyde Williams in the bottom of the fifth to close Rox scoring.
The lone Worcester run was scored when Vinny Pennell, back in the leadoff spot against the right-hander, singled home Jeff LaHair. It was the only blemish of the contest for Lussier, who struck out just one but did not walk any. Matt Zachary and Chris Anderson both threw a scoreless inning a piece in relief for their respective squads.
Worcester will have an off day tomorrow before heading back to New Jersey, this time to Skylands Park, for four against the SkyHawks. First pitch on Friday is at 7:05, pre game at 6:50 on AM580 FM94.9 on WTAG.
