Rox Unveil Eight-Team 2011 Can-Am League Slate

Durham, N.C. - Can-Am League commissioner Miles Wolff unveiled the league's 2011 season schedule on Monday. Eight teams will participate in the campaign, which includes 94 regular-season games.

The schedule includes two new franchises to the league, the Rockland (Ramapo, N.Y.) Boulders and the Newark (N.J.) Bears. The Sussex (Augusta, N.J.) Skyhawks will not return in 2011, and will be replaced by the New York Federals, a road team operated by the independent New York State League.

The creation of the road team for the 2011 season means an additional seven home games for the Rox, 54 home and 40 away games in total.

The first regular-season game for new Rox skipper Bill Buckner's squad will take place at Campanelli Stadium on Thursday, May 26, when Brockton hosts the Worcester Tornadoes. The final game of the regular season for the Rox will take place Sunday, September 4, at home against New Jersey.

Other highlights of the schedule:

-Two-time defending league champion Quebec visits Brockton May 30-June 1 and August 15-18.

-Newark, managed by former major-leaguer Tim Raines, is in town June 10-12 and July 22-24.

-Rockland makes its first appearance at Campanelli Stadium June 14-16. Once again, the season will be split into two 47-game halves, with the winners of each half and the two teams with the next-best overall records qualifying for the playoffs. There will be no divisions in 2011.

The Rox have also shifted game times for the 2011 season. Home games will be at 7:05 p.m., with the exception of Sundays, which will start at 1:05 in May, June and September, and at 5:05 p.m. in July and August. Other game times of note include a 10:30 a.m. start during the June 1 game, and 11 a.m. starts on Tuesday, July 12 and Wednesday, August 3. Times are subject to change.

1 New York; 2-4 at Pittsfield; 6-9 New York; 10-12 Pittsfield; 14-16 at New Jersey; 17-20 New York; 22-24 Newark; 25-28 at Quebec; 29-31 at Newark.

AUGUST

1-3 New York; 4-7 Rockland; 9-11 at Worcester; 12-14 at Pittsfield; 15-18 Quebec; 19-21 Worcester; 23-25 at Rockland; 26-29 at New Jersey; 30-31 Pittsfield.

SEPTEMBER

1 Pittsfield; 2-4 New Jersey.
