Pittsfield Colonials News Release
BROCKTON, MA - The Brockton Rox twice built four-runs leads, the second of which was too great for the Pittsfield Colonials to overcome as the Rox downed the Colonials 8-6 in a day game on Tuesday afternoon.
For the second straight night, the Colonials got a run with a productive out in the first inning as Jerod Edmondson doubled to leadoff the game, was moved up on a sacrifice by Quentin Davis and scored on a Danny Bomback grounder to first to give Pittsfield a 1-0 lead.
Brockton came back with two in the bottom of the inning on Keith Brachold's 11th homer of the season to make it 2-1 Rox. The home club would get four more in the second including a two-run long ball from Dominic Ramos to go up 6-1.
Pittsfield would work it down to a two run game in the fourth as with runners on first and third, Peter Fatse drove a Robert Bono offering out to left-center for his first homerun with the Colonials, slicing the Rox lead to 6-4. Brockton came back with a pair in the bottom of the fifth on a sac fly by Chris Grossman and a double by Mike Torres to make it 8-4.
The Colonials got one of the runs back in the sixth on a throwing error by Grossman as Angel Molina scored to make it 8-5. In the seventh, a Johnny Welch single scored Edmondson, who had had singled, to make it 8-6.
Pittsfield nearly completed the comeback in the ninth as facing Rox closer Jake Hale, Rafael Cabreja walked and Edmondson again doubled moving Cabreja to third with no outs. A win was not to be, however, as Hale struck out Quentin Davis and got Bomback to fly out to left before he retired Johnny Welch on a deep fly ball to center to end the game.
Bono (3-0) picked up the win, going 5+ innings for Brockton. David Qualben (3-3) went the distance for the Colonials in the loss. Hale notched his second save of the season.
Pittsfield now has Wednesday off before a three game trip to Rockland to end the first half. All three games can be heard via pittsfieldcolonials.com. All of the games in the series start at 7:05 p.m. with a 6:45 opening for the pregame show.
