Rox Sweep 'Stangs with 4-2 Win

July 21, 2018 - Pioneer League (PL)
Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release

Niko Decolati and Hunter Stovall hit home runs as the Grand Junction Rockies completed the sweep of the Billings Mustangs with a 4-2 win Friday night at Suplizio Field.

Decolati's fourth home run of the season followed John Cresto getting hit by a pitch, and it tied the game at two, then Stovall broke the tie with his fifth home run of the season and third in as many games, and Cresto brought home a run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Billings took the lead in the first inning when Pabel Manzanero singled home a pair off Wander Cabrera, but the Mustangs left the bases loaded after Cabrera struck out Michael Spooner. Cabrera was done after one and five Rockies reliever combined to shutout the Mustangs the rest of the way.

Moises Ceja, Cayden Hatcher, and Will Tribucher tossed two scoreless innings, and after Michael Agis struck out the side in the eighth, Alexander faced the minimum in the ninth, earning his eighth save of the season, which puts him alone in fourth on the team's single season save list, just five behind Scott Oberg for the franchise record. In his second pro outing, Hatcher earned the win.

The Rockies improve to 17-17 on the season, and will look to match their season-best four-game winning streak when the Great Falls Voyagers visit Suplizio Field for the opening game of a 4-game series Saturday night at Suplizio Field.
