Brockton Rox News Release
The Brockton Rox (14-15) lost, 19-2, overwhelmed by the hitting of the New Jersey Jackals (13-16) at Campanelli Stadium on Saturday night. The Jackals scored their 19 runs on 22 hits in front of a crowd of 5,568 fans.
The first 1,000 fans received "Bobble-Ankle" dolls sponsored by the Brockton Hospital. The figurine pays homage to Curt Schilling's heroic effort in the 2005 World Series, pitching with an ankle injury which left blood soaking his sock. Instead of a bobbling head, Schilling's ankle bobbles.
Rox starting pitcher Mike Henry (2-2) picked up the loss, lasting only two-thirds of an inning. Henry gave up six runs on seven hits.
The Jackals sent ten batters to the plate in the first and fifth innings and scored six runs in each frame. Sandy Madera led the way for the Jackals going 4-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI.
Kris Zacuto supplied the Rox offense for the night, a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Josh Brey (3-1) picked up the win for the Jackals. He gave up only two hits and two walks while striking out six in six shoutout innings of work.
The Rox and Jackals will meet in the final game of the series tomorrow at 2:05 p.m.
