Cutters Unable to Muster Win Against Spirit

June 25, 2005 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Haven County Cutters News Release

After Friday night's late inning heroics, fans at Yale Field sat patiently, waiting for the New Haven County Cutters to spring to life as the game crept into the Saturday night. But the late runs never came and the North Shore Spirit registered a 6-2 win to even the series at one.

For the second game in a row, the Spirit starting pitching dominated the Cutters? hitters. Jake Mullis pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run and striking out five. The Cutters managed only six hits.

Jeff Brooks had a double and a single, but was the only New Haven County player who had multiple hits. It was the eighth straight game in which Brooks had at least one hit and the sixth game out of seven he reached base with more than one hit.

Spirit designated hitter Travis Oglesby hit his eighth home run of the season, with Stephen Carter and Rob Fischer each driving in a pair of runs.

The rubber match of the series is set for Sunday afternoon at 2:05. The Cutters will send Rolando Valles (2-2) to the hill in an attempt to pick up their third successive series win. The Spirit counter with Alex Herrera (0-0).
