Brockton Rox News Release

Brockton, MA (March 6, 2008) - The Brockton Rox and the Cape Code Baseball League have announced a partnership that will bring a game from the country's premier summer collegiate league to Campanelli Stadium on Saturday, June 28th. In a rematch of the 2007 Cape League Championship Series, the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox will host the Falmouth Commodores in a historic contest. Y-D captured the 2007 Cape League Championship.

Brockton Rox President Jack Yunits worked extensively with Cape League officials to make the game a reality. "We are pulling out all the stops as we welcome two championship-caliber teams from the premier summer collegiate baseball league in the country to the City of Champions," Yunits said. "We're delighted to be able to host the teams that played for the Cape Cod League Championship last season and we know our fans will be seeing some of the nation's best young collegiate ballplayers."

The game will be an official, regular season contest, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the new Cape League Hall of Fame. As the game was originally scheduled to be played at Red Wilson Field in South Yarmouth, the Y-D Red Sox will be the home team. Y-D won its second consecutive Cape League Championship in 2007 and its third in the last four seasons.

The Cape Cod League is regarded throughout college baseball and by professional scouts as the country's number one summer league for college players. In the 2007 first-year player draft, a total of 222 former Cape Leaguers were selected, seven of them in the first round and four among the top ten.

Former Brockton High School standout catcher and Cape Leaguer Peter Marciano will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. The younger brother of the Brockton Blockbuster played at Brewster and Sagamore in the Cape League in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
