Brockton Rox News Release

NASHUA, NH - (June 10, 2009) - The Brockton Rox erased a 5-0 deficit at the hands of the American Defenders of New Hampshire on Wednesday night, only to see the Defenders mob 1B Clyde Williams at home plate following his walk-off home run in the bottom of the 14th inning.

New Hampshire scored five quick runs against Rox starter RHP Stevie Delabar in the first three innings, and carried that lead into the fifth. Rox 1B Keith Brachold hit a two-run home run and RF Jud Thigpen drove in two with a double in the fifth to cut the lead to 5-4.

With the score still 5-4 in favor of New Hampshire in the eighth inning, Thigpen hit a three-run home run to left field, giving the Rox a 7-5 advantage.

New Hampshire answered right back with two runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game.

The bullpens combined for 16 innings of work, but in the end it was Williams solo home run just inside the right field foul pole to give the Defenders an 8-7 victory. It was his second home run of the game following a three-run shot in the third.

The teams will finish the series on Thursday in New Hampshire with RHP Jeff Long facing Defenders' LHP Mark Romanczuk. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM.
