
Rox Cruise To 13-Run Victory At Pittsfield

Pittsfield, Mass. - Rox RF Keith Brachold connected on two homers as Brockton continued to roll with their seventh straight win, 15-2, over the Pittsfield Colonials on Thursday night at Wahconah Park. The 13-run margin is the largest of the season as the team pounded out 16 hits.
The seven-game winning streak is the second longest of the season and over the last four contests, the Rox have plated 47 runs on 71 hits. Tonight was the fourth time in five games the team has had double-digit runs and fifth straight with double-digit hits.
Brockton (14-9 second half, 41-29 overall) scored first-inning runs for the fourth time in five games with four runs on four hits. 2B Shawn Williamsplated CF Chris Valencia with a single after Valencia had doubled to begin the game. Two batters later, Brachold made it 2-0 with an RBI groundout. The final two tallies of the frame came on back-to-back two-out singles by LF Mike Conroy and SS Dominic Ramos.
The Colonials (14-10, 34-37) scored a run in the home half of the first on a sacrifice fly by CF Daniel Carte. Pittsfield recorded two hits and left the bases loaded against Rox starting LHP Mike Wlodarczyk.
The Rox added a single run in the fourth on DH Scott Wearne's RBI groundout and another one in the fifth with Brachold's solo homer to left field.
Williams smacked his third dinger of the season for the Rox in the sixth inning, a three-run shot, while C Chris Grossman chipped in with a run-scoring single to put Brockton ahead, 10-1. The Rox scored another four in the eighth on an RBI double by Grossman, a two-run single from Conroy and a run-scoring base knock by Valencia.
Brockton's final run came in the ninth inning on Brachold's second home run of the game, a bomb to right field, upping his season total to 13.
Wlodarczyk (9-3) picked up his third straight win after going five innings and allowing just a single run on three hits with four walks and five strikeouts. He left the game after throwing 105 pitches (67 strikes). RHP Francisco Ortiz made his debut for the Rox and threw two scoreless innings with one walk and two punchouts.
Valencia had his third consecutive four-hit game, going 4-for-5 with a double, RBI, a walk and two runs scored. Williams finished with two hits and four runs driven in, while Brachold drove in three. Grossman, Conroy and Ramos also had multi-hit games for the Rox.
Rookie INF John Parke, out of Eastern Connecticut State University, made his professional debut late in the game going 0-for-2. Parke was signed earlier in the day, and is a native of Middlefield, Conn.
SS Matt Nandin had a 2-for-3 night for the Colonials with a run scored and RF Angel Molina reached base three times with two walks and an eighth-inning home run.
Game two of this four-game series is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on Friday night at Wahconah Park. RHP Freddy Flores (6-2) goes for the Rox taking on Pittsfield LHP Jon Venters (1-2).
