Augusta, N.J. - The Skyhawks shook up their roster this afternoon, signing infielder Rene Ruiz and catcher Anthony Sosnoskie.
The 5-foot-9, 165-pound Ruiz is in his second season of professional baseball and batted .308 with four RBI in 12 games played for the Wichita Wingnuts of the American Association earlier this year. The 26-year-old attended Manhattan College and played two full seasons with the Jaspers before signing with the Big Bend Cowboys of the Continental Baseball League in 2009.
Sosnoskie graduated from Virginia Tech this spring and was a four-year collegiate player, batting .314 with seven home runs, 51 RBI, a .453 on-base percentage and a .524 slugging percentage during his junior season in 2009. The 22-year-old catcher played 22 games for the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod League later that year, notching two home runs and 10 RBI in 61 at bats.
To make room for Ruiz and Sosnoskie, right-handed pitcher Michael Streaman and catcher Jonathan Gossard were released. Streaman accumulated a 5.19 ERA in 10 appearances for Sussex, and Gossard batted .258 with three home runs and eight RBI in 28 games played.
