
Rox Clinch Best Record in Northwoods League with Eighth Straight Win

St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud Rox would clinch the best overall record Sunday night as they defeated the Kenosha Kingfish 10-6 in front of a crowd of 2,258 at the Rock Pile in St. Cloud.
Austin Caspersen (Doane College) started the game for the Rox and pitched 7.0 innings and struck out five batters. Brett DeGagne (University of North Dakota) relieved Caspersen and threw 0.2 innings where he struck out one batter and picked up the win.
Collin Strall (Louisiana State University) would then come in for one batter, which he struck out with two runners on base. Sheldon Miks (St. Cloud State) pitched the ninth inning, sending the Kingfish down in order and striking out the final batter of the game.
Liam Bedford (Doane College) scored the first run for the Rox in the second when the Kenosha centerfielder bobbled a Jake Farr (Tennessee Tech) single. Farr would score shortly after on a Brandon Benson (Georgia College) single.
The Rox would tack on three more runs in the third inning. Brett Pope (Western Carolina University) hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored John Sansone (Florida State University). Two more runs scored when Benson hit a double that scored Bedford and Farr.
The two teams kept exchanging blows until the seventh inning when the Rox offense exploded for five runs. Lee Miller started off the scoring when he stung a single through the right side of the infield that scored Bedford and Pope.
Benson would score on a Joe Tietjen (UNC Ashville) double to the left center gap. Austin Athmann (University of Minnesota) would cap off the scoring with a double that drove in Miller and Tietjen.
Nine Rox players would record hits tonight with the team finishing with 13 total hits.
With the win the Rox finish the 2015 regular season with a second half record of 30-8 and an overall record of 49-23. St. Cloud finishes 5.5 games ahead of Willmar in the second half standings and 1.5 games in the overall standings.
The Rox will ride an eight game winning streak into the playoffs as they take on the Rochester Honkers at 7:05 p.m. Monday night. Gates will open at 6:05 p.m. for the first playoff game in team history.
