Rox Can't Hold Early Lead in 8-3 Loss to Sussex

BROCKTON, MA -Sussex CF James Cooper drove home four runs including two with a triple in the top of the eighth inning, earning the Sussex Skyhawks an 8-3 victory over the Brockton Rox at Campanelli Stadium before 3,665 in attendance. Cooper also drove home two earlier the game with a two-out double in the fifth inning. C Jason Radwan finished the game 3-3 with a double, 2 RBI and reached in all four of his plate appearances for the Rox. DH Guye Senjem had a single and a walk and now has reached in all 16 games and has hits in eight straight. The Rox and Skyhawks have split the first two games of the series and will play the rubber game tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 PM.

The Rox jumped on RHP Kevin Olsen in the first frame. 1B Jake Daubert drove home the go-ahead run in last night's Rox win and drove home the first run tonight with a single to center. Radwan followed with a two-run double to the left-center field gap to put the Rox up 3-0. Sussex scored a run in the third to climb to within two runs, tying the game in the fifth on Cooper's double. Rox Manager Chris Miyake, Pitching Coach Shad Williams, and RHP Mike Henry were all ejected for arguing with the home plate umpire in the top of the fifth.

In the eighth inning, RHP Kyle George struck out the first two batters before giving up singles to LF Scott Grimes and SS Bobby Lenoir. With a 1-2 count, Cooper lined a George offering into the corner in right, plating two runs and giving Sussex the lead for good. The Skyhawks added three runs in the ninth inning.

Tomorrow at 1:05 at Campanelli Stadium in the third game of the series, RHP John Boker (2-0, 2.25 ERA, 3 GS) takes the mound against RHP Jose Correa (2-0, 5.23 ERA) for Sussex.
