Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Nick Green's eighth-inning RBI double gave the Round Rock Express a 3-2 victory over the Salt Lake Bees in Wednesday night's Pacific Coast League series opener at The Dell Diamond. The Express (65-45) posted their 18th last-at-bat win of the season and 36th comeback win. The Bees (51-61) snapped a four-game winning streak.
Leonys Martin reached on a fielding error by Salt Lake second baseman Freddy Sandoval to open the eighth. Martin then stole second and moved to third when catcher Cole Armstrong's throw skipped into center. Green followed with a double into the left-field corner, snapping a 2-2 tie.
That made a winner of Mark Hamburger (5-4), who tossed 2.0 scoreless innings in relief of starter Eric Hurley. Hamburger allowed two hits and a walk with one strikeout. Hurley worked 6.0 innings; he surrendered two runs on eight hits and three walks with four strikeouts.
Salt Lake reliever Matt Meyer (0-1) took the tough-luck loss; he worked the eighth inning and allowed only Martin's unearned run with one strikeout. Starter Jerome Williams yielded two runs on five hits over 6.0 innings with two walks and three strikeouts.
Rian Kiniry's two-out, two-run single snapped a scoreless tie in the top of fourth. The Express tied the game in the sixth. Martin singled with one out and scored on a Green double, also into the left-field corner. After and Esteban German double pushed Green to third, Chad Tracy plated Green with a sacrifice fly.
The Express won for just the eighth time when scoring fewer than four runs. Round Rock improved to 50-15 when holding its opponent to fewer than six runs.
Green was 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Martin was 1-for-3 with a walk, two stolen bases and two runs scored.
Hank Conger had the lone multiple-hit night for the Bees, going 2-for-5.
Round Rock and Salt Lake continue their four-game series Thursday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at The Dell Diamond. Right-hander Ryan Tucker (2-3, 4.75 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Express, while right-hander Matt Palmer (6-9, 7.30 ERA) is listed as the starter for the Bees.
NOTE: Express manager Bobby Jones recorded his 1,495th career win, all of which have come in the Texas Rangers organization.
