Round Rock Express News Release
METAIRIE, La. - Logan Morrison's two-out, bases-loaded double cleared the bases in the bottom of the sixth propelled the New Orleans Zephyrs to a 6-3 victory over the Round Rock Express in Pacific Coast League action Saturday night at Zephyr Field. The Express (29-33) have dropped two straight against the Zephyrs (29-31) and fall to 3-8 against New Orleans on the season.
New Orleans loaded the bases on three singles, two of which were of the infield variety, before Morrison lined a double to the right-center gap. That snapped a 3-3 tie, and the Zephyrs never relinquished the lead.
That made a winner of reliever Dan Meyer (1-0), who allowed one run on one hit and a walk with no strikeouts in 1.1 innings of work. Starter Adalbert Mendez left after 4.2 innings; he allowed two runs on four hits and one walk with three strikeouts. Scott Strickland pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.
Bud Norris was sharp in his first of two rehab starts with the Express. He tossed 4.0 scoreless innings on two hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Norris used 66 pitches, 45 of which were strikes; he was first-pitch strike on 12 of the 16 batters he faced and retired all seven batters on which he started with an 0-2 count.
Sergio Perez (2-1) took the loss for the Express, following Norris to the mound. He allowed six runs, four earned, on seven hits and a walk with one strikeout over 2.0 innings.
Jason Castro's two-run homer in the top of the fourth snapped a scoreless tie. It was Castro's third homer of the season, all of which have come since May 24.
That lead was short-lived, though, as the Zephyrs plated three runs on three hits and a costly Express error in the bottom of the fifth. Chris Johnson drilled a solo homer to left with one out in the top of the sixth, tying the score at 3-3.
Matt Kata and Yordany Ramirez each had two hits for the Express. Danny Richar and Donnie Murphy each had two hits for the Zephyrs, the former with two RBI.
Round Rock and New Orleans conclude the series Sunday with a 6:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at Zephyr Field. Southpaw Andy Van Hekken (3-4, 3.93 ERA) starts on the mound for the Express, while right-hander Brian Lawrence (4-4, 4.34 ERA) gets the nod for the Zephyrs.
