
Gotay homers, Redbirds rally

MEMPHIS, TN - Memphis rallied late with six runs in their final two at-bats to beat Iowa 6-2 Saturday afternoon at AutoZone Park.
Cubs starter Jay Jackson dominated the Redbirds into the seventh inning, not allowing a hit until Allen Craig's double with one out. Three batters later Ruben Gotay broke up the shutout with a three-run homer into the Redbirds bullpen to give the Redbirds the lead. Memphis added three more runs in the eighth on three consecutive RBI-doubles from Daniel Descalso, Allen Craig and Joe Mather. Chris Robinson led the Cubs with three hits, including a solo home run in the second inning.
Rich Hill picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief for the âBirds. Jackson took the loss for the I-Cubs allowing three runs on two hits and three walks in seven innings. Memphis starter Lance Lynn allowed two runs on eight hits over six innings.
The Redbirds wrap up the homestand and series with Iowa tomorrow afternoon. Tomorrow will be Bark in the Ballpark with Jake the Diamond Dog making an appearance.
