Morrison Helps Z's Top Express, 6-3

Logan Morrison hit a bases-clearing double to break a sixth-inning tie, lifting the New Orleans Zephyrs to a 6-3 win over the Round Rock Express on Saturday night.

The Express jumped on the scoreboard first in the top of the fourth when catcher Jason Castro launched a two-run homer off Zephyrs starter Adalberto Mendez.

The Z's answered back in the bottom of the fifth inning with three runs of their own. Brad Davis led off the inning with a single, Meyer bunted for a single and Bryan Petersen reached when pitcher Sergio Perez overthrew the bag at first. Danny Richar followed with his second hit of the night, a two-run single, as New Orleans climbed to a 3-2 lead.

Chris Johnson hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth to even the score, before Morrison roped his three-run double to provide the winning margin.

Scott Strickland notched his seventh save of the year, working around a pair of walks in the ninth.

Mendez went 4 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits and one walk while striking out three. He saw his scoreless innings streak snapped at 17.

Reliever Dan Meyer picked up his first win as a Zephyr, yielding one run in 1 1/3 innings.

Bud Norris, making a rehab start for Round Rock from the Houston Astros, gave up two hits and struck out five over four scoreless frames.

The Express and the Zephyrs square off in the final game of their four-game tilt tomorrow evening, with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
