Cedar Rapids RoughRiders News Release
Cedar Rapids, Iowa- Cedar Rapids RoughRiders forward Jon Grabarek has been named the United States Hockey League's Offensive Player of the Week.
Grabarek, 19, earned the honor after scoring two goals and notching four assists for six points in the RoughRiders' victories over St. Louis and Chicago last weekend. The Sterling Heights, Michigan, native also posted a superb plus/minus rating of +6 for the weekend.
"It's great to see Jon playing this well," said RoughRiders coach and general manager Mark Carlson. "He has the skill to be one of the most dangerous players in this league."
On the season, Grabarek (17-31-48) is tied for fourth in the USHL in assists and is tied for seventh in point scoring.
Grabarek exploded for four points (one goal, three assists) last Friday as the RoughRiders scored a 5-3 home win over the St. Louis Heartland Eagles. One night later, Grabarek set up the Riders' first goal and buried the third himself in a 3-0 shutout of the East Division-leading Chicago Steel at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.
This marks the second time the season Grabarek has been named Offensive Player of the Week. He first took home the honor back in November. With ten regular season games left for the RoughRiders, Grabare has long since surpassed his 2002-03 full season scoring totals. Last year, in his first USHL campaign, Grabarek scored 15 goals and totaled 29 points.
Grabarek and the RoughRiders (28-20-2, 58 points) are in second place in the East Division, four points behind Chicago. The Riders return to action with a home-and-home series against the Sioux City Musketeers this weekend. The Riders will visit Sioux City Friday evening before hosting the Musketeers Saturday night at 7:05PM.
Tickets for Saturday's game and the rest of the RoughRiders' remaining home dates are now on sale at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office. Tickets can be purchased over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or in person at the ice arena. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days. Ticket prices range from $8.00 to $17.00 including a 50-cent facility fee.
