CALGARY, AB - Curt Malawsky scored at 4:58 of overtime to lead the Calgary Roughnecks to a thrilling 10-9 win over the Edmonton Rush in National Lacrosse League action in front of 11,197 fans at the Pengrowth Saddledome Saturday night.

Malawsky finished the game with a hat trick and an assist for the Roughnecks (2-0), while Kaleb Toth counted a goal and four assists. Peter McFetridge notched his first two NLL goals, Josh Sanderson had a goal and three assists, while Dane Dobbie (1g, 2a), Scott Ranger (1g, 1a) and Jeff Moleski (1g, 1a) rounded out the scoring attack.

Dan Teat tallied a hat trick and two helpers for the Rush (0-1), while Jason Wulder and Callum Crawford tallied two goals and an assist each. Meanwhile, Jimmy Quinlan scored once and set up three others, Jamie Floris had a goal and an assist, and Mike Hominuck had five helpers.

After netminder Pat Campbell backstopped Calgary to a 12-10 road win over the San Jose Stealth on Friday night, Matt King got the call in net for the Roughnecks on Saturday against his former squad and stopped 29 of 38 shots to record the victory. Last season, King played six games for the Rush and had a 0-1 record after going 4-5 with the Portland LumberJax before a mid-season trade. He was then acquired in the off-season by Calgary in a trade that sent goalie Steve Dietrich the other way.

In his first appearance in net for the Rush, Dietrich played well making 48 saves, including 18 in the second quarter when the Roughnecks poured on the pressure.

Just 27 seconds into the game, Sanderson started things off for the home squad when he fired a shot past Dietrich. A short time later, Dobbie converted a feed from Toth while Calgary was playing a man short to put the Riggers up 2-0.

After Quinlan scored to get Edmonton on the board, Crawford tallied a shorthanded marker for the Rush to tie the game.

Malawsky then fired back-to-back goals 41 seconds apart during a Calgary power play with Edmonton's Andy Secore serving a major penalty for checking from behind.

Ranger scored late in the first to put Calgary up by three before Toth fired a long-range shot past Dietrich at 6:11 of the second to put the 'Necks up 6-2. Goals by Teat and Crawford then pulled the Rush to within a pair before the intermission.

McFetridge then notched his first career NLL goal on a breakaway just 30 seconds into the third quarter, before Moleski scored to give the Riggers an 8-4 lead.

The 'Necks then ran into some penalty trouble as Teat and Wulder counted power-play goals for Edmonton before Floris scored at 7:42 of the third to pull the Rush within a goal.

After Wulder notched yet another power-play goal for the Rush, McFetridge scored his second breakaway goal of the contest at 9:33 of the fourth quarter. Teat then completed his hat trick for Edmonton with 1:26 left in regulation to set the stage for Malawsky's overtime heroics.

The Roughnecks now have a week to prepare for their next game in Toronto against the Rock which goes Saturday, Jan. 17. The Riggers will return home to the 'Dome for a rematch against the Stealth on Saturday, Jan. 24 (7:30 p.m. start time).
