Roughnecks Trim Training Camp Roster By Six

CALGARY, AB- The Calgary Roughnecks made their first round of cuts Tuesday, trimming their training camp roster by six players.
Defencemen Eric Lamothe, Drew Petkoff, Clint "Bubba" Westwood, Dan Hartzell and Kevin Hamoaka were cut, along with transitional player Brad McDonald.
"So far it's been extremely competitive, every guy that we released could probably make every other team," said Brad Banister, Roughnecks' President and General Manager.
"They all came into camp extremely well conditioned, tried their heart out and worked their butts off, but unfortunately the numbers have to be in by the tenth of December, so we had to make some moves."
Thirty-two players are left vying for spots on the team's 2009 roster, including 12 defencemen, 12 forwards, four transitional players and four goalies.
"They did a great job, a very commendable effort and hopefully we will see them back next year," added Banister.
The Calgary Roughnecks 2008 training camp continues this Saturday, December 6 at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre in Cochrane, AB.
The Roughnecks will continue to hold weekend training camp sessions during December and the beginning of January in preparation for the 2009 season.
All training camp sessions are free and open to the public.
The Roughnecks and Edmonton Rush will meet on Saturday, December 13 for a pre-season Battle of Alberta at the Enmax Centrium in Red Deer. Game time is 7:30 p.m. and tickets are on sale through TicketMaster.
The Roughnecks open their season in San Jose on January 9th and host their home opener at the Pengrowth Saddledome on January 10th against provincial rivals, the Edmonton Rush.
