Calgary, AB - Hard-nosed defender Ryan McNish today signed a new contract with the Calgary Roughnecks.

The one-year deal is subject to National Lacrosse League approval.

McNish, 6 ft. 2 ins. 230 lbs., was acquired from the Toronto Rock in 2004.

In 10 games with the Riggers last season he registered two goals and three assists, and picked up 27 loose balls and 19 penalty minutes.

Mid-way through the campaign he was being promoted as Rookie of the Year, but a season-ending knee injury against the Rock, dashed those expectations.

"Ryan is a rising defensive star in the NLL," said Roughnecks General Manager Kurt Silcott, "and we are extremely pleased to have him for another year."

McNish, 24, is based in Edmonton with the Canadian Armed Forces as a helicopter technician.
