West Texas Roughnecks News Release

MIDLAND, TX. - The West Texas Roughnecks announced late Thursday afternoon, May 20, that the organization has signed former Georgia defensive back Antonio Sims. Sims (6'1", 190 lbs.) spent two seasons with the Georgia program in 2005 & 2006 but saw limited playing time due to injuries. Sims was projected to be the back-up rover back as a freshman in 2005, but he was forced to red-shirt after breaking his leg in fall practice. Sims entered the 2006 season for the Bulldogs program as the back-up rover back on the depth chart, and he would see playing time in two games during the '06 regular season.

He has good athletic abilities and he gives us depth on the defense which will allow us to move players around at certain positions. He will be a big help to us as we enter this final stretch of the regular season." stated West Texas Roughnecks Head Coach Chris Williams.

Following the 2006 season, Sims transferred to the University of West Georgia where he saw significant playing time at defensive back in 2007. Sims is a 2004 graduate of Hiram High School in Hiram, Georgia. As a senior, Sims posted more than 2,000 yards of total offense and was an All-District selection on defense. Before committing to Georgia, Sims was offered full scholarships from programs such as LSU, Louisville, North Carolina and Illinois.
