May 20, 2010 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Chicago Slaughter News Release
HOFFMAN ESTATES - The Chicago Slaughter (4-5), the premier indoor football team in the Chicagoland area, will host division rival Green Bay Blizzard (7-2) this Saturday evening at the Sears Centre Arena for the second of three meetings scheduled for the 2010 season. In the spirit of competition, Mayor William D. McLeod from the Village of Hoffman Estates, home of the Chicago Slaughter, wagered a bet with Mayor James J. Schmitt of Green Bay. If the Chicago Slaughter wins, Mayor McLeod will receive Green Bay-related items, including steaks and Green Bay-opoly (a Green Bay version of Monopoly). If the Green Bay Blizzard team is victorious, Mayor Schmitt will receive a Craftsman tool set from Hoffman Estates-based Sears, a men's grooming kit from Mary Kay cosmetics and memorabilia from the Village of Hoffman Estates.
Football fans are well aware of the Packers/Bears rivalry, which is the longest running one in the NFL. This weekend's match-up continues the rivalry between these two football powerhouse communities. The Slaughter beat Green Bay on the road earlier this month and are seeking to secure a second victory at home.
"The bet was done in good spirit to get fans excited about the rivalry between our two great sports teams," explained Mayor McLeod. "Plus, it's great to showcase some of the fantastic corporations that are part of the Hoffman Estates business community."
Fans are invited to get to the Sears Centre early on Saturday evening for a special pregame event with Slaughter Head Coach and 1985 Super Bowl Champion Chicago Bears great, Steve "Mongo" McMichael. A pregame rally will be held at 6:15 p.m. in the tailgate section of the Sears Centre (SW parking lot) where a large dump truck will be available for every Slaughter fan to shed, shred and trash their Green Bay paraphernalia. Slaughter fans who bring any green & yellow item displaying the words 'Green Bay' to be tossed into the garbage truck and crushed will receive a FREE TICKET to the next Slaughter home game on May 28th.
