Roughnecks release two
December 6, 2005 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Calgary Roughnecks News Release
Calgary, AB (Tuesday, December 6, 2005) - The Calgary Roughnecks have cut two more players as they edge closer to naming their final roster of 26 by December 13.
Released are youngsters Brett Christensen and Kitan Gbadebo, victims of what General Manager Kurt Silcott says is one of the strongest groups of lacrosse players he's ever seen.
"Brett, for example," says Silcott, "is a talented player who could dress for most teams in the National Lacrosse League.
"Unfortunately for him he's just not good enough to crack the left hand side of our offence which is super loaded."
Gbadebo, who was signed as a free agent during the summer, showed well at training camp but was unable to displace any of the club's three returning goalies.
"Kitan is a good goalie," said Silcott, "but he's not yet at the level of the guys we already have in place - Curtis Palidwor, Andrew Leyshon and Matt Morehouse."
Silcott says 32 players remain in camp, with five more still to be axed before next Tuesday.
"I don't envy the coaches when it comes to those final cuts," said Silcott. "It's going to be real tough for them. We have an extremely strong squad and I fully expect that one or two NLL-calibre players won't make the roster."
