
Roughnecks Nearly Weather Charge from Sacramento Republic FC

TULSA, OK- The Tulsa Roughnecks played host to Sacramento Republic FC in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Saturday, October 5th at ONEOK Field.
After a day full of rain, the match began with each team adjusting to the wet pitch. In the 13th minute, Sacramento Republic FC was able to take advantage of the wet conditions and capitalized off a misjudged a bounce by the Tulsa Roughnecks defense. Villyan Bijev found himself behind the backline and alone versus Sean Lewis and tucked the ball into the bottom corner. In the 19th minute, Thomas Enevoldsen eased the ball into the bottom corner of the Tulsa Roughnecks goal after a pass by Drew Skundrich was dummied by Cameron Iwasa at the top of the Tulsa Roughnecks 18-yard box. The Tulsa Roughnecks cut the deficit in the 31st minute as Marlon flicked a header to the back post off a Rodrigo da Costa set piece. The Tulsa Roughnecks leveled the score at two in the 40th minute as Janu Silva flicked a Rodrigo da Costa cross into the back of the net from 15 yards out. The half ended with Sacramento Republic FC pressure, but the half ended level.
The second half saw Sacramento Republic FC taking the lead in the 59th minute after Thomas Enevoldsen headed the ball to the back post to find Cameron Iwasa who buried the ball into the Tulsa Roughnecks goal. In the 68th minute the rain began to pour over ONEOK Field, but the match played on. The Tulsa Roughnecks kept pushed for the equalizer throughout the half with chances from Panin Boayke and Rodrigo da Costa, but reluctantly came up just short leaving the score 3-2 to Sacramento Republic FC.
The Tulsa Roughnecks are back at home on October 12th, to take on New Mexico United at ONEOK Field.
