
Roughnecks Fight Hard But Can't Outlast Phoenix, 0-1

TULSA, OK - The Tulsa Roughnecks hosted Phoenix Rising FC in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Saturday, July 27th at ONEOK Field in USL Championship Western Conference play.
The match started as slowly as each side was getting settled into the match. In the 22nd minute, Fredlin Mompremier got behind the Phoenix Rising FC. Mompremier opened up his hips and looked to slot the ball into the far corner, but Zac Lubin parried the ball out for a corner. The half saw the Roughnecks keeping pressure on the Phoenix backline, but were couldn't find the back of the net. In the 45th minute, Mompremier made a strong tackle on James Musa in the middle of the field. Mompremier was shown a questionable red card. In frustration of the call, Michael Nsien was sent off for dissent towards the referee. The half ended scoreless, but the Roughnecks a man down and without their head coach on the sideline.
The second half began with Phoenix looking to capitalize on the 10 man Roughnecks side, but the Roughnecks held their own and had periods of possession. Until the 69th minute whenever Phoenix won a corner kick. The kick was pushed away by Mason Stajduhar, but only to the head of Adam Jahn. Jahn then crossed the ball back towards the middle of the goal only to find the head of Keron Lambert who tucked it into the bottom corner giving Phoenix the 1-0 lead. In the 89th minute, Toby Uzo had a rip towards goal that Lubin was forced to parry over the bar. The match ended with the Roughnecks lumping long balls into the Phoenix box, but were unsuccessful, leaving the match a 1-0 Phoenix victory
The Tulsa Roughnecks head down the turnpike 90 minutes for their next away match on Saturday, August 3rd to take on in state rivals, Oklahoma City Energy FC.
