Calgary, AB - The Calgary Roughnecks defeated the Las Vegas Desert Dogs 12-7 Friday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome, and in doing so tied the franchise record for wins in a single year with 12.
Las Vegas were first on the board early in the game, with Tanner Cook tying things up for Calgary with a power play goal ten minutes into the game. Jeff Cornwall closed out the first quarter with a goal to leave the Roughnecks up 2-1 after the first. Calgary continued to find the back of the net with goals from Haiden Dickson and Jesse King before Las Vegas answered with two of their own. Calgary again closed out the second quarter with Josh Currier finding the back of the net to keep them ahead by one at the half.
Shane Simpson opened the second half scoring a short-handed goal, with Eli Salama also finding the back of the net for Calgary, whilst Las Vegas added three of their own. Back-to-back goals for Tyler Pace midway through the third quarter saw Calgary pull ahead, with subsequent goals from Kyle Waters and Tanner Cook extending the Roughnecks to a comfortable lead. The Desert Dogs were unable to match, adding one more to their tally before Jesse King scored the final goal for the Roughnecks to leave the game at 12-7.
Jesse King again led the Roughnecks tonight in points with seven (2g, 5a). Tanner Cook finished with 2 goals and four assists for six points, taking him to 100 points in his career. Eli Salama was a top performer for Calgary scoring one goal, scooping nine loose balls and causing two turnovers.
Tonight's game was Christian Del Bianco's 100th game in the National Lacrosse League, having played all 100 with the Roughnecks. He stopped 31 of 38 shots finishing with an 815 save percentage. The Calgary Roughnecks outshot the Las Vegas Desert Dogs 47-38.
The Calgary Roughnecks now head to Texas for their final game of the regular season, taking on Panther City LC on Friday April 21st.
Calgary today announced the date for their Quarter Final Playoff game, set for Saturday, May 6th at 7:30pm at the Scotiabank Saddledome. An opponent will be determined through the final three weeks of the regular season.
