Calgary Roughnecks News Release

EVERETT, WASH - The Calgary Roughnecks defeated the Washington Stealth 13-9 on Friday night at Comcast Arena in Everett, Washington in front of 3,450. The Roughnecks improved to 4-3 on the season while the Stealth fell to 6-2.

The Roughnecks jumped out to a 4-0 first quarter lead on the strength of Kaleb Toth's three straight goals to open the scoring. Toth, who was injured to begin the season, had only two goals in three previous games and none in the last two. Things didn't get better for the Stealth in the second quarter as Calgary would head into halftime with a 10-1 lead.

In the third quarter Jeff Zywicki did Toth one better with four straight goals in the frame. A late rally by the Stealth could not overcome the Roughnecks lead.

Toth ended up with four goals and three assists on the night to lead the Roughnecks while Zywicki added one assist to his four goals to lead the Stealth.

After getting pulled in his previous outing, Roughnecks goaltender Matt King stopped 22 of 23 shots in the first half. He kept the Stealth off the board until 11:26 of the second quarter when Paul Rabil scored on the penalty kill. King could not keep up his torrid pace in the second half, but did end with 31 saves on 40 shots. Josh Sanderson tallied five points (2g,3a), Dane Dobbie collected four (2g,2a) and Tracey Kelusky(1g,2a) and Jeff Shattler (2g,1a) recorded three points on the night. Craig Conn also had a pair of goals in the win. Scott Ranger led the Calgary squad in helpers with five. Bruce Codd (2a), Andrew McBride (1a), Nolan Heavenor (1a) and Mike Carnegie (1a) also added assists.

The Stealth will head to Boston next Saturday to take on the Blazers (3-4). The Roughnecks will host the Philadelphia Wings (1-5) at the Pengrowth Saddledome on Saturday, March 6. These two teams will face each other one more time this season on Saturday, March 13 in Calgary.
