
Roughnecks Back On Track With Win Over Titans

NEW YORK, NY - The Calgary Roughnecks snapped their two game losing streak with a 12-10 win over the New York Titans Saturday at Madison Square Garden. The Roughnecks remain atop the Western Division rankings with a 6-2 record going into the All-Star weekend.
Kaleb Toth (3g, 3a) and Dane Dobbie (3g, 2a) each notched a hat trick, while defenceman Scott Carnegie collected his first goal of the season. To top it off, Devan Wray tallied an assist to make 50 points for his career.
The Titans got off to a quick start right off the top of the game with goals from New York's Ryan Boyle and Mike McLellan to open the scoring.
Jeff Shattler was quick to respond though and put the Riggers on the board at 1:53, accepting a pass from Josh Sanderson to put the ball past Titans netminder Matt Vinc.
Keevin Gallbraith took a holding penalty, which Rigger Dane Dobbie wasted no time capitalizing on, tying the game at two goals apiece.
The Titans continued to hold their own against the Western Division leaders, with Jordan Hall notching the third goal for the Titans to take the lead once again.
Jeff Moleski leaves the game tied at three when he sprints down the turf and fires a low shot on Vinc.
Dobbie and Mike Carnegie both take penalties giving the Titans the two-man advantage going into the second quarter.
The second quarter continues to be a battle for the lead, just as the first was, with both teams coming out firing. Dobbie, Scott Ranger and Toth are all able to sneak goals by Vinc in the second for the Roughnecks.
Brendan Mundorf tallies all three goals for the Titans in the second quarter, giving the forward a hat trick and tying the game at 6-6 after the first half.
Vinc proved to be strong between the pipes for the Titans in the first half, taking 37 shots, compared to Matt King's 20.
The Roughnecks head into the second half fired up and ready to take charge of the game at hand. After tallying the only three goals in the third frame, the Roughnecks head into the final quarter 9-6.
Although the New York Titans never gave up in the fourth quarter, the Roughnecks proved to be the dominate team.
Sanderson opened up the scoring in the fourth, notching his first goal of the game at 1:56 on the powerplay. Toth followed and increased the Roughnecks lead to 11-6.
The Titans rebelled back with a three straight goals from McLellan, Hall, and Jamie Rooney bringing the game back within two.
Captain Tracey Kelusky ends the Titans scoring streak at 9:35 after firing the ball past Vinc.
The Titans make their final attempt at a comeback when Pat Maddalena notches New York's 10th goal, but to no avail and the Roughnecks capture the win with a score of 12-10.
Both McLellan (2g, 4a) and Maddalena (1g, 5a) notched six point games, closely followed by Mundorf (3g, 2a) and Hall (2g, 3a) with five points and Boyle (1g, 3a) with four. Jarret Park (1a) and Jamie Rooney (1g) each added singles for the Titans.
The Roughnecks were led in points by Toth (3g,3a) and Sanderson (1g, 5a). Also contributing to the Roughnecks' win was Dobbie (3g, 2a), Kelusky (1g, 3a), Ranger (1g, 2a) followed with singles from Wray (1a), Moleski (1g), Bruce Codd (1a), Curt Malawsky (1a), Scott Carnegie (1g), Andrew McBride (1a), Mike Kilby (1a) and Jeff Shattler (1a), who also led the team in loose balls with 13.
The Roughnecks Sanderson, Kelusky, Shattler, and Moleski will all be competing in the All-Star game in Colorado during the March 6-7th weekend.
The Roughnecks next game is in Edmonton at Rexall Place against the Rush on March 13th at 7:00 p.m.
