Orlando Titans News Release

New York - February 28, 2009 - The (5-5) New York Titans came up short in their Saturday matinee against the first place (6-2) Calgary Roughnecks today at Madison Square Garden. The Titans will face-off against the (3-4) San Jose Stealth on Sunday at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, at 7:30 PM.

Just thirty seconds into the first quarter Ryan Boyle, on an assist from teammates Mike McLellan and Jordan Hall, scored the 500th goal in the history of the Titans franchise. Of note, Boyle also assisted in the first Titans goal in franchise history back in 2007. The Titans appeared to be on a roll when McLellan and Hall both added goals to the tally in the first.

The second quarter of today's battle at the Garden belonged to the Titans' Brendan Mundorf. Mundorf scored a power play goal with assists from Pat Maddalena and Mike McLellan just seconds into the second quarter. Mundorf ripped off yet another goal minutes later with an assist from Jarret Park and teammate Maddalena. The Roughnecks answered back with four minutes left in the second with a goal from Dane Dobbie, who would go on to score two additional goals and two assists for the game. Down a goal with just 29.8 seconds left in the half, Mundorf cranked a goal past Roughneck goalie, Matt King, to record a hat trick going into the locker room and tie the game up at 6.

In the third, the Roughnecks clamped down on the Titans offense holding them scoreless for the quarter and registering three consecutive goals. The fourth quarter began the same as the third, with two straight Roughneck goals. The Titans rallied back late in the fourth with goals from Mike McLellan, Jordan Hall and Jamie Rooney. However, the Titans were unable to overcome the two goal deficit.

Titans goalie Matt Vinc had yet another impressive game in goal with 60 shots on goal and 48 saves and Stephen Peyser recorded 9 loose balls and 15 face off wins.
