 West Texas Roughnecks News Release
The Odessa Roughnecks announced on Monday, December 8th, 2008 that the organization has made two additions to the 2009 roster. WR Wesley Williams and OL/DL Juan Rios will be joining the Roughnecks organization as training camp is set to begin just a few months from now. Wesley Williams will add more depth to an already explosive wide receiving core, and Rios will be a nice addition to a strong offensive/defensive line.
Wesley Williams (WR) 6'3", 225 lbs. San Joaquin Delta JC / San Diego State University -
Williams (pictured below) was a key member of San Diego State's receiving core, who made the transition from San Joaquin Delta Junior College to San Diego State University in 2002. Williams is a physically-gifted wideout who was a highly-touted member of Tom Craft's first recruiting class. The Fairfield, California native caught 53 passes for 787 yards and four touchdowns at Delta Junior College. He helped the club finish 8-3 in 2001 and was named an all-conference receiver. After red-shirting in 2002 at SDSU, Williams put together a strong 2003 campaign for the Aztecs. Williams recorded 19 receptions for 196 yards in â03. His lone touchdown was the first score of the game in SDSU's 16-13 loss at No.2 Ohio State. That game, Williams caught 5 passes against the Buckeyes, the first five receptions of his SDSU career. His best performance was a seven-catch game in the season finale against Air Force, including 73 receiving yards that day.
"Wesley is an impressive athlete with good size. His height and weight makes him a NFL-caliber sized wideout. With the rule changes this season, we expect him to be a large part of our possession receiving game. We are definitely excited to have him coming to the Roughnecks." stated Head Coach of the Odessa Roughnecks, Chris Williams.
Juan Rios (OL/DL) 6'5", 325 lbs. Oklahoma Panhandle State University -
Rios is a local product and 2004 graduate of Odessa High School. Rios will add more depth to an offensive/defensive line that was one of the strongest in the former Intense Football League in 2008. Rios spent some time in 2007 with the Austin Wranglers of the Arena Football League. "I"m excited about having another local guy added to our roster for training camp. I'm excited about giving him the chance to compete in camp, and I believe with his size and experience that he will turn some heads this preseason." stated Head Coach Chris Williams.
