Roughnecks & Helping Kids Be Kids To Host Second Football Camp On July 11

football camp that will take place from the Ector County Coliseum on Saturday, July 11. The camp will go from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and it will cost $25.00 per child for participation. The purpose of the one day football event is to teach children from third thru sixth grade all the basic fundamentals of football. All participants will have the opportunity to learn every aspect of the game from Odessa Roughnecks players. Additionally, the camp is also a fundraiser to help in assisting less fortunate children get involved with sports such as the game of football.

There will be a free lunch for all the children from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m and each child that participates in the camp will receive a free t-shirt. Additionally, each participant will receive tickets for the Roughnecks final game of the season against the Abilene Ruff Riders on Saturday, July 11. Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 7:11 p.m.

JASON JOHNSON NAMED STARTING QUARTERBACK -

The Odessa Roughnecks Coaching Staff officially announced earlier this week that QB Jason Johnson has been named the starter for this Saturday's game versus the Abilene Ruff Riders. Johnson (6'4", 210 lbs.) has already received playing time in two games this season with Odessa having collected five total touchdowns (four rushing, one passing).

Johnson was reacquired by the Roughnecks back on Friday, June 19 to serve as the backup quarterback. Johnson led the Odessa Roughnecks to a 14-0 regular season record in 2005, eventually leading the Roughnecks to the Pacific Central Division Title. Johnson registered 1,703 passing yards and 450 rushing yards that season including 42 total touchdowns.

Johnson held successful seasons in 2006 with the Lakeland Thunderbolts in the NIFL, and the Laredo Lobos of the AF2 in 2007. More recently, Johnson is serving as a Graduate Assistant Coach at Sul Ross State working with wide receivers.
