IFL Announces VidSwap.com Players of the Week-Week 17
July 8, 2009 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release
Richmond, VA: The Playoff battles are set with one week left in the inaugural Indoor Football League regular season. Only time will tell who will be hoisting the first ever IFL United Bowl Trophy. The three players selected this week for honors are all playoff bound and set to help their teams make a run at a championship. Fans can visit GoIFL.com to see the video highlights that made these young men the VidSwap.com Players of the Week.
WEEK SEVENTEEN OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK -RB DARIUS FUDGE/WICHITA WILD
There is an old adage that says, "RECORDS ARE MADE TO BE BROKEN." It's not often however, that a player breaks his own records in the same season. Wichita's Darius Fudge did just that in an effort that will be remembered for a long time by those who were lucky enough to witness it. Earlier this season, he set an IFL record by running for five touchdowns in a single game against Omaha. Against Alaska last weekend, Fudge surpassed that mark by finding the endzone seven times via the ground. He accounted for 42 points, which set another IFL record for a single game by a non-quarterback. In all, Fudge finished the night with 148 yards on just 18 carries, good for an average of 8.2 yards per carry. Armed with top 5 talent at Quarterback, Running back, and Wide Receiver the Wild seem poised to make a run at this years United Bowl Trophy.
WEEK SEVENTEEN DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK -DE JERMAINE BLAKELY/ EL PASO GENERALS
In a memorable cross-conference battle between El Paso and Rochester, it was the General defense and not there offense that was the difference. One player in particular stood out amongst his peers and dominated the line of scrimmage. Defensive Lineman Jermaine Blakely picked up a fumble late in the fourth quarter, as the Raiders were about to take a lead in the contest, and raced 48 yards for the game sealing touchdown. In addition Blakely contributed 3.5 tackles, 3 sacks, and two forced fumbles. With the offense and defense clicking, the Generals seem primed and ready for post season battle.
WEEK SEVENTEEN SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK-K TOMMY STAPLES/SAN ANGELO STAMPEDE EXPRESS
Knowing that they had to win and they would clinch the final playoff seed in the Lone Star Division, the Stampede Express played arguably their best game of the season. The game was back and forth throughout most of the contest against Corpus Christi, but the steady leg of Kicker Tommy Staples made sure the Hammerheads wouldn't get the upper hand. The San Angelo placekicker hit on 92% of his extra point attempts hitting 11 of 12. Those 11 points were the difference as San Angelo won 82-75 and set up a first round playoff match in Abilene.
The regular season comes to an end this weekend starting this Thursday, July 9, as the Fairbanks Grizzlies head to Anchorage to take on the Alaska Wild. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 PM Alaskan Standard Time. Follow all the action at www.goifl.com and on the B2 broadcasts www.b2livetv.com of each game all season long.
