Washington Wild Things News Release
WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Washington Wild Things fell to the Normal CornBelters in game three of the series by the final score of 8-1. After giving up six runs in the first inning, Washington's offense was unable to recover.
Normal took control of the board early, gaining six runs during the first inning. Center fielder James Davison Jr. and shortstop Santiago Chirino crossed the plate after left fielder Andrew Godbold and designated hitter Sean Hurley were hit by a pitch with bases loaded. During the next at-bat, second baseman Justin Fletcher advanced to first on an error by Washington's shortstop Brett Marr which plated right fielder Derrick Loveless and Godbold. Catcher Cam Adams then singled to plate Hurley while Fletcher advanced to second base. Adams scored on a throwing error by Pollock.
In the ensuing half inning, Washington was able to put one on the board with first baseman Reydel Medina's ground out that plated center fielder James Harris.
After five scoreless innings, the CornBelters added a run with Godbold's RBI-single that scored Loveless in the top of the seventh, and an inning later, a single off the bat of Chirino brought the score to 8-1 in favor of Normal.
The Wild Things were unable to muster any offense after the first inning and lost their only game of the series.
The bullpen for the Wild Things was able to limit the damage after Trevor Bradley (4-3) was only able to pitch 0.1 innings. James Meeker and Aaron Burns pitched the next 6.2 innings and allowed only one run while shutting down Normal's offense. BJ Sabol and Jared Crescentini tossed the final two innings and also only let up one run.
The Washington Wild Things are back in action tomorrow in the first of three games against the River City Rascals. Thomas Dorminy is on the mound for Washington and first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
