Lake Erie Crushers News Release
AVON, OHIO. - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, finished off a six game home stand with a 9-1 loss to the Gateway Grizzlies. The loss ended a home stand in which the Crushers went 1-5 including five straight losses.
Crushers starter Oriel Caicedo (1-2) only went three innings, allowing eight runs (two earned) on seven hits. The scoring began in the second inning when Gateway loaded the bases and Cody Livesay reached on a fielder's choice allowing a run to score. The second run came on a sacrifice fly from Josh Anthony.
The big blow came off the bat of Blake Brown who hit a three-run home run to make it 5-0. Brown hit two home runs in the series.
Lake Erie got on the board in the home half of the second after Aaron Hill singled home Zach Racusin, cutting the deficit to 5-1. Hill finished with two hits in the game.
Lake Erie had plenty of opportunities throughout the game especially in the early stages as they left the bases loaded in both the first and third innings. They stranded 11 total in the game.
Gateway added onto their lead in the third inning when Jhonniel Alvarez doubled in two runs to make it 7-1. Anthony later added an RBI double to make it 8-1.
The Crushers bullpen did a solid job to provide some big innings in relief. Jake Repavich and Branden Nunn worked a couple of scoreless innings for Lake Erie out of the bullpen.
Grizzlies starter Alec Kisena (5-4) went six innings and allowed just one run on five hits. He struck out eight along the way.
Gateway added an unearned run in the eighth against reliever Kent Hasler to wrap up the scoring. The Crushers defense committed three errors in the game.
In the series Lake Erie was outscored by Gateway, 25-4. The Crushers fall to 36-33 with the loss while Gateway improves to 31-40.
The Crushers will begin a six game road trip with a trip to Florence followed by a series against Windy City. Game one against the Freedom will come tomorrow night at 7:05 PM.
