Roth Wins 100th Game as Crushers Split Doubleheader

TRAVERSE CITY, MI. - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, opened their series against the Beach Bums with a highly contested 2-0 victory before dropping a tough 4-3 decision in game two.

Justin Sinibaldi made his first start of the season in game one. He went four innings while striking out four and allowing just two hits. He ended his outing by retiring the last eight men he faced.

Traverse City had their ace in Jordan Desguin (5-1) on the mound. He was dealing through the first five innings and had yet to allow a hit. Bryan DeLaRosa led off the sixth with a double but was thrown out after Cameron Newell reached on a fielder's choice.

Aaron Hill followed with a single after Newell stole second and the Crushers had men on the corners. A wild pitch from Desguin allowed Newell to score the first run. The insurance came from Kewby Meyer who singled home Hill, making it 2-0.

Max Biedrzycki (4-0) who had taken over in the fifth inning got the first two outs in the sixth before Louis Cohen took over. Cohen struck out Noah McGowan with two men on to end the inning.

In the seventh, the Crushers went to Branden Nunn who worked around a couple of base runners to pick up his second save of the season.

With the win, manager Cam Roth reached 100 career wins as manager of the Crushers. Tomorrow marks the two year anniversary since Roth took over in Lake Erie.

Game two was trending the way of the Crushers until the sixth inning. The Crushers took an early 1-0 lead against Reinaldo Lopez (3-3) after an RBI single from Doug Trimble.

Lopez allowed a couple of runs in the sixth as well. A two-run double by Trimble made it 3-0 Lake Erie. Trimble was 3-3 in game two.

Lake Erie starter Mason Klotz went 5.1 innings while allowing one run on five hits. The one run came in the sixth inning after reliever Luke Watts (0-1) had taken over. With two men on, McGowan delivered a two-run triple over the head of right-fielder Tyler Cowles. That tied the game before Luke Lowery delivered the go-ahead single.

Matt Williams finished it off with his fourth save of the season and Traverse City (18-22) earned the win. Lake Erie (24-17) will send Donny Murray (3-4) to the bump tomorrow while Traverse City goes with John Havird (2-3). Game time is set for 7:05 PM.
