Rossini, Wait, Rasmussen Picked for Eurotrip
July 2, 2015 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-For the second consecutive year, three players with ties to the Waterloo Black Hawks have been chosen by USA Hockey to represent the United States during the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup Tournament in Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Veteran Hawks defenseman Sam Rossini is one of six skaters on the roster of under-18-year-old players who appeared as a regular in the United States Hockey League last season. Forward Garrett Wait and goaltender Dayton Rasmussen will also take the ice during the August tournament and are anticipated to join the Hawks following the event in September.
Notable as the youngest member of the Black Hawks in 2014/15, Rossini appeared in 44 games. He recorded his first USHL goal on February 20th at Young Arena during a 6-2 win against the Sioux City Musketeers. In addition, Rossini contributed four assists throughout the season. Originally from Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, he is committed to the University of Minnesota.
Waterloo selected both Wait and Rasmussen in the third round during Phase I of the 2014 USHL Draft. Wait - like Rossini, committed to the Gopher program - recorded 25 goals and 51 assists in 29 high school games as the Edina Hornets reached the Minnesota Class AA State Tournament. Rasmussen spent the winter with the Colorado Thunderbirds midget U-16 team, helping the squad to USA Hockey's National Tournament for that age group. He is committed to the University of Denver.
The United States earned third place during the 2014 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup Tournament. Forwards Brock Boeser, Tom Novak, and Nick Swaney all made contributions to the effort before appearing for the Black Hawks during the subsequent regular season. This year, the event will be held from August 10th to 15th in Breclav, Czech Republic, and Piestany, Slovakia and will include opposing teams from Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, and Switzerland.
Rossini, Wait, and Rasmussen were teammates together in Europe last August as well. Representing the nation on the United States Under-17 Select Team at the Five Nations Tournament in Crimmitschau, Germany, the trio helped Team USA claim second place.
