Ross to the DL; Kleinknecht, Cervenka to Mississippi

PEARL, MS -- Mississippi Braves RHP Greg Ross has been placed on the disabled list. In corresponding moves, utility player Barrett Kleinknecht has been transferred to Mississippi from Gwinnett. Also, LHP Hunter Cervenka was transferred to Double-A Mississippi from Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday, August 19.

Ross, 25, was 7-9 with a 3.98 ERA in 23 games with the M-Braves this season. Eight of his last nine outings were quality starts-tossing less than seven frames only once. The right-hander had the fifth-best ERA in all of Double-A Baseball since July 1. In that nine-game span, Ross was 5-2 with a 1.61 ERA. The Baltimore native was originally selected by the Braves in the 18th round of the 2011 draft out of Frostburg State.

Kleinknecht, 27, was hitting .187 with 11 extra-base hits in 79 games with the G-Braves. The utility player hit .280 with 31 extra-base hits in 100 games with the Double-A Braves last season. A native of Florence, SC, Kleinknecht was selected by the Braves in the 12th round of the 2010 draft out of Francis Marion University. He spent the 2012 and 2013 seasons at Double-A Mississippi, hitting .219 and .238 respectively.

Cervenka, 25, has not allowed a run in 10 games between the M-Braves and G-Braves. He began the season at Double-A Tennessee where he went 1-0 with one save and a 2.08 ERA. He was then promoted to Triple-A Iowa where he appeared in 12 games, going 0-1 with an 11.08 ERA. He was signed by the Braves on July 7 out of the Atlantic League (Indy). He made three scoreless appearances at Triple-A Gwinnett. Cervenka was originally selected by the Red Sox in the 27th round of the 2008 draft. He was acquired by the Cubs along with Michael Bowden on April 21, 2012, in a deal for Marlon Byrd and cash.

The Mississippi roster has 25 active players, 3 disabled and 1 suspended.
