Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Miami Marlins announced a pair of transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tonight's games against the Mobile BayBears at Bragan Field at 5:35 p.m.
Left-handed relief pitcher Cody Ege has been transferred from Jacksonville to Triple-A New Orleans. Ege pitched in five games for the Suns, with no wins or losses and a 1.08 ERA in eight and a third innings pitched. Ege was recently acquired by the Marlins in a July 31 trade with the Texas Rangers in exchange for former Suns pitcher Sam Dyson.
Additionally, right-handed starting pitcher Jake Esch has been reinstated from Jacksonville's disabled list and transferred to Triple-A New Orleans. Esch had been on the disabled list since July 12 with a left oblique strain, and he went 6-5 with a 3.48 ERA in 15 starts for the Suns. Esch was also a 2015 Southern League Midseason All-Star.
The Suns roster now stands at 24 active players, and a revised roster is attached.
Thursday night will feature a pair of seven-inning games with first pitch for game one set 5:35 p.m. ET. The second game will begin roughly 30 minutes after completion of the first contest.
In game one Austin Brice (5-8, 5.20 ERA) will be on the mound for Jacksonville against Mobile's Braden Shipley (8-9, 3.61ERA). The Suns will send out lefty Matt Tomshaw (5-9, 4.11 ERA) in game two while the BayBears will counter with righty Johnny Shuttlesworth (0-0, ERA).
