Omaha Lancers News Release
Keir Ross drilled a shot past Lincoln goaltender David Reekie at the 8:34 mark of the final period to give the Lancers a 2-1 win over the Lincoln Stars before 4,194 fans at the Mid-America Center on Friday, February 1st.
The win kept the Lancers' lead in the USHL West Division race at six points over Sioux City, as the Lancers also kept pace with first place Indiana in the run for the USHL regular season championship. It was the Lancers' third straight victory in their current home stand, which ends against Des Moines on Saturday, February 2nd, at 7:05 PM.
Omaha took the lead in the first period as Ben Arnt's shot from the left side deflected past the Lincoln goaltender for his 10th goal of the season at 13:42 of the first period of play. Jake Hauswirth and Travis Novak were given assists on first goal of the game.
After a scoreless middle session of play, Lincoln tied the game just over four minutes into the third period on a power play goal from Jason Gregoire, whose 21st goal of the year came at the 4:08 mark.
But, Ross answered with the eventual game-winning goal, as his rising shot found the upper left corner of the net for his fourth goal of the season nearly four and a half minutes after Gregoire's red-lighter. Seth Soley and Matt Thurber earned assists on the goal.
Drew Palmisano got the victory in goal for the Lancers, posting a 26-save effort in getting his 18th win of the year (18-6-2). Reekie was tagged with a two-goal, 22 save performance in his third regulation loss of the season (13-3-1).
Lincoln out shot the Lancers 27-24 for the contest. The Stars were 1-for-6 on the power play, while the Lancers were scoreless in eight power play chances.
