Ohio Junior Blue Jackets News Release
Columbus, OH. - The Junior Blue Jackets scored four times in the third period and erased two one-goal deficits to defeat the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders 4-3 at the Dispatch Ice Haus Friday night.
Cedar Rapids (23-12-1, 27 pts.) opened the scoring in the first period when defenseman Matt Donovan notched a power-play goal midway through the period to give the RoughRiders a 1-0 advantage. The score remained that way until Ohio (11-18-5, 27 pts.) forward Derek Roehl tallied his 13th goal of the season at the 7:14 mark of the third. The RoughRiders came right back, taking the lead again only 21 seconds later on a goal by forward David Boehm.
But the Junior Blue Jackets would score the next three goals. Defenseman Pat Goebel, who verbally committed to play at Mercyhurst College last week, tied the game at 2-2, and forward Dan Hobbs gave the Junior Blue Jackets their first lead of the game with under three minutes to play. Forward Justin Cseter added an empty-net goal at the 18:45 mark to extend the lead to 4-2. Cedar Rapids cut the deficit back to one when defenseman Scott Mathis scored with 15 seconds remaining, but the Junior Jackets held off one last charge to earn their third consecutive home victory. The win also marked the second straight for Ohio against Cedar Rapids after losing its previous 15.
Ohio finished the game 0-for-1 on the power play, as Cedar Rapids converted one of four opportunities in the contest. Junior Jackets goaltender Pasquale Terrazzano made 28 saves on 31 shots for his seventh win of the season, while his counterpart, Kent Patterson, turned away 21 of 24 shots in the defeat.
The two teams will face off again Saturday at Nationwide Arena to conclude the season series. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
