Boyds, Md. - Washington Spirit and United States Women's National Team midfielder Rose Lavelle has been nominated for the 2019 U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year Award.
Lavelle earned the nomination following her breakout performances with the USWNT over the past year. Lavelle's form in the World Cup was stellar, as the midfielder appeared in six matches and scored three goals, including a crucial goal against the Netherlands in the final. Lavelle's performances were rewarded with the Bronze Ball Trophy.
The nomination adds to a star-studded year for Lavelle, as she was also named to the FIFPro Women's Best XI in Milan last September and named as a nominee for the Ballon d'Or Feminine, which is to be announced on December 3.
The last Spirit player to be nominated for the award was Crystal Dunn in 2016.
Other nominees include Julie Ertz, Carli Lloyd, Alex Morgan, Alyssa Naeher and Megan Rapinoe.
Votes for U.S. Soccer Player of the Year awards are collected from respective National Team coaches, National Team players who have earned a cap in 2019, members of the U.S. Soccer Board of Directors, U.S. Soccer Athletes' Council, National Women's Soccer League head coaches for the USWNT and American soccer league (MLS and USL) head coaches for the USMNT, select media members and former players and administrators. In addition, select college coaches vote for the USWNT award.
Voting for the awards starts today and closes on Dec. 6, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. ET. The winners will be announced during the second week of December.
