Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

KANSAS CITY, KS- It only took 92 pitches for Charle Rosario to record 27 outs and guide the Gary SouthShore RailCats (33-31) to a 7-2 win over the Kansas City T-Bones (29-35).

The RailCats' 'ace' was efficient; registering six strikeouts and surrendering just two walks and four hits to the T-Bones. The only KC runs came from solo home runs by Tyson Gillies and Anthony Gallas. Rosario's performance helped erase the RailCats' memory of a nightmare finish to last night's game in which the T-Bones won on a walk-off play featuring two defensive errors.

In addition to Rosario's big night, Frank Martinez and Jarred Mederos each had three-RBI games. The Cats' defense chipped in by avoiding any costly miscues.

The RailCats scored first, putting up a run in their first chance. Anthony Cheky hit a 1st inning double and Martinez hit him home with a two-out single.

The T-Bones responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the 1st. Gillies hit Rosario's second pitch of the night out of the park to make it 1-1.

Martinez and Cheky combined again to help the RailCats gain the lead, this time in the 3rd inning. Cheky singled to right field with one out and moved to second when Chase Harris walked. The two speedsters then successfully executed a double steal to set the table for Martinez. The veteran infielder knocked Cheky home on a fielder's choice to first base making it 2-1.

The T-Bones found one last weakness in Rosario in the bottom of the 4th. Gallas homered for the 10th time this season to tie the game at two. Then Rosario. The All-Star settled in didn't allow a hit after from the 5th inning on.

The RailCats reclaimed the lead with a productive 6th inning. Martinez started the threat with a one out walk. After a stolen base, Jose Gonzalez also drew a walk. Then, Alex Crosby gave the Cats the lead on a RBI base hit. Kansas City made a move to the bullpen but reliever Josh Tols wasn't able to stop the charging Cats. Jarred Mederos hit a two-out double with the bases loaded to bring the score to 6-2. It was Mederos' fourth double in his last 11 at bats.

Gary SouthShore added one more run in the 7th on a Martinez sacrifice fly. Rosario retired the last five batters in order to secure his sixth win of the season.

Cheky was the only RailCat with multiple hits, but every starter reached base at least once. The RailCats were successful in all three of their stolen base attempts. The complete game was Rosario's third of the season. He had not 'gone the distance' in his nine professional seasons before this one.

The RailCats try for the series win tomorrow night in Kansas City. First pitch is at 7:05 PM and coverage begins at 6:40 on 95.9 WEFM and railcatsbaseball.com.
