Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

GARY, IN - The Gary South Shore RailCats announced yesterday they placed first baseman Jeremy Hamilton on the Inactive List. The RailCats signed right-handed pitcher Carlos Pinales to fill the roster spot.

Hamilton, an eight-year veteran of professional baseball, is hitting .221 with 27 RBIs on the season. The left-hander has played in 54 games and recorded 43 hits in 195 at bats. Hamilton has one triple and eight doubles.

Hamilton played yesterday against the Lincoln Saltdogs and went 1-3 while scoring one run and knocking one run in. His 5th inning RBI single broke a 0-12 streak he carried through the six-game homestand.

The first baseman was a 5th round draft pick by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2008 draft following a successful college career at Wright State University. He hit .248 with a .343 on-base percentage in two seasons in the Phillies organization. Hamilton is in his 6th season of independent baseball. He spent last season with the Saltdogs.

Hamilton joins RHP Conrad Wozniak on the Inactive List. Wozniak was placed on the IL on July 11th.

Pinales joins the RailCats after pitching this summer in the Empire League. The Dominican Republic-native started three games for the Old Orchard Beach Surge and was 3-0 with a 0.75 ERA. The RailCats signed RHP Jorge de Leon from the same league earlier this season.

Pinales, 24, was a prospect for six years in the Boston Red Sox organization. He worked mostly as a reliever and reached as high as the Class A South Atlantic League. He pitched in 30 games last season for the Greenville Drive and posted a 5-4 record with a 4.14 ERA. His career record is 20-15 with a 2.88 ERA. The righty boasts 207 strike outs compared to 41 walks over his six seasons. Pinales is started yesterday's game in Kansas City.

The RailCats' 15th anniversary season continues as the team begins a seven-game road trip tonight in Kansas City. Their next home game is August 4th against the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
