Burlington Bees News Release

Burlington, IA (July 20, 2006) Carlos Rosa pitched his first professional complete game and shutout as the Burlington Bees (12-15, 47-47) beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (8-19, 35-62) 1-0 at Community Field tonight. The Bees have won three in a row and lead the season series 7-2 over Wisconsin.

Rosa (7-6) needed just 91 pitches to end a streak of three straight losing decisions. The Rattlers only threatened twice in nine innings. In the top of the sixth, Robby Hudson led off with a single, stole second, and moved to third on a groundout, but Rosa got out of the inning by striking out Mike Sanuders and getting a diving catch from Mario Lisson at third on a line drive off the bat of Kuo Hui Lo. The other threat came in the eighth. Travis Scott led off with a single and Alex Gary moved pinch-runner Kevin Reynolds to second with a sacrifice bunt. Reynolds was running on a 3-1 pitch to Hudson, who popped the ball into shallow centerfield. Jose Duarte raced in to make the catch and threw to second for the inning-ending double play. Rosa allowed six hits and no walks while striking out six.

The Bees got their only run when Brady Everett led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a solo homer to left. It was Everett's fourth home run of the year and he is now 11-22 against Rattlers pitching this season. It was one of just four hits allowed by Rattlers' starter Marwin Vega (3-7) who finished the seventh. Austin Bibens-Dirkx finished the eighth and allowed one hit while striking out two. Josh Johnson was 2-4 for the Bees only multi-hit game.

The Bees and Timber Rattlers continue this series tomorrow night at 7:00 at Community Field. RH Matt Kniginyzky (7-3, 3.15) will start for the Bees against LH Paul Fagan (4-11, 4.70) for the Rattlers. Tomorrow is Burlington/West Burlington Chamber Night with fireworks after the game sponsored by the Greater Burlington Convention & Visitors Bureau. The gates will open at 6:00 and the game wie game will be broadcast live on KBUR AM 1490 and KBKB AM 1360 with the pre-game show starting at 6:40.
