BURLINGTON, IA -- Brady Everett hit a solo home run and Carlos Rosa pitched a complete game six-hit shutout as the Burlington Bees beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 1-0 Thursday night at Community Field. Rattler starter Marwin Vega allowed one run on four hits over seven innings, but took the loss.

Wisconsin (35-62 overall, 8-19 second half) had their chances in the sixth and seventh innings against Rosa.

Robby Hudson reached on a single to start the sixth, stole second, and went to third on a groundout. Rosa struck out Mike Saunders for the second out. Then, Kuo Hui Lo's liner was snagged on a diving grab by Burlington third baseman Mario Lisson to keep the game scoreless.

In the Rattler half of the seventh, Johan Limonta started the inning with a single. Rosa struck out Adam Moore and got Jeff Flaig to ground into an inning ending 6-4-3 double play.

Everett turned on a 2-0 pitch from Vega to launch a lead off home run to left in the bottom of the seventh and give the Bees the only run of the game. Vega gave up four hits, walked two, and struck out four, but wound up with his seventh loss of the season.

Wisconsin had a final opportunity in the top of the eighth. Catcher Travis Scott started the inning with a single. Kevin Reynolds entered the game as a pinch runner for Scott. Alex Gary moved Reynolds to second with a sacrifice bunt. Reynolds took off for third base on a 3-1 pitch to Hudson, but Hudson popped out to shallow center and Reynolds was easily doubled off to end the inning.

The Rattlers hit into three double plays on the evening.

Rosa pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his first career complete game and his first career shutout. He did not walk a batter and struck out six for the victory.

Game two of the series is Friday night. Paul Fagan (4-11, 4.70ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Matt Kniginyzky (7-3, 3.15ERA) gets the starting assignment for the Bees. Game time is 7:00pm.
