Rosa, Olivares Join Gnats For Home Opener

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The New York Mets announced today that RHP Manuel Olivares and RHP Wendy Rosa will be joining the team tonight for the home opener against the Columbus Catfish. Starter/reliever Josh Stinson and reliever Edgar Ramirez have been placed on the Brooklyn roster.

Olivares is a native of Maracay Aragua, Venezuela and was signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2003. Olivares had a 2.14 ERA in the 2006 Venezuelan Summer League when he tied for the league lead in shutouts and tied for second with two complete games. Last season with the Kingsport Mets, Olivares was 3-3 with a 4.56 ERA in 13 appearances (6 starts).

A native of San Ignacio de Sabaneta, D.R., Rosa was signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2005. Rosa spent two seasons playing in the Dominican Summer League before coming stateside last season. With the GCL Mets, Rosa was 2-1 with a 2.70 ERA in 12 appearances. He struck out 36 batters and walked 24 in 30.0 innings.

Stinson started last night's game in Charleston and took the loss, throwing just four innings and allowing a grand slam in the first. Ramirez also threw in last night's contest, going 1.1 innings allowing just one hit.

Savannah is home tonight for its home opener versus the Columbus Catfish at 7 p.m. The first 1,000 fans into Grayson Stadium will receive a Magnet Schedule courtesy of St Joseph's/Candler. Postgame fireworks will follow the contest, presented by KIX96.
