Columbus Catfish News Release
Columbus, Georgia- After completing an eight game road trip against Rome and Savannah, the Columbus Catfish will return to Golden Park to play eight games at home; welcoming their rival Rome Braves and the SAL Southern leading Charleston RiverDogs. In this homestand, the Catfish will face some of the finest talent in the SAL as they look to rebound from a slow start.
Columbus' first opponent, the Rome Braves, features some of the best prospects that Georgia has produced in recent years; including Jason Heyward, the first-round pick of the Atlanta Braves in 2007 out of Henry County High School in McDonough, Georgia. Rome also boasts Michael Fisher, a sixth-round pick out of Georgia Tech, and Adam Coe, hailing from Russel County High School in Phenix City, Alabama. Coe was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 7th round of the 2006 draft with the 220th pick. Rome's OF Cody Johnson, P Jeffrey Locke, P Steve Evarts, and IF Michael Fisher were all ranked among the top 10 Appalachian League prospects.
Current South Atlantic League leading Charleston RiverDogs are boasting a 7-1 record after taking 3 of 4 from the Rome Braves and sweeping the Savannah Sand Gnats. The âGnats are highlighted by two of the New York Yankees top Minor League prospects, as defined by Baseball America; catcher Jesus Montero and pitcher Dellin Betances.
Columbus' bats seemingly found their way on this week's road trip to Rome; as Mike McCormick went .357 with 4 RBI, Maiko Loyola hit .385 with 4 RBI and 1 HR, and Emeel Salem batted a hefty .438 with 7 hits and 5 runs scored. Cody Cipriano also contributed a .294 batting average, including 4 doubles and 5 runs scored. The team as a whole batted a very respectable .290 against the Rome Braves, and showed the type of run-scoring ability they possess by scoring 29 runs in four games. The Columbus Catfish hope to continue their success at the plate as they square off with the Rome Braves, beginning at 7 p.m. this coming Tuesday night.
Tickets may be purchased by calling (706) 571-8866 or by ordering online at www.columbuscatfish.com. The Golden Park ticket office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
