Corona Homers Three Time in 'Jackets Win

Lexington, KY - The GreenJackets (4-5) opened a four game series in Lexington with a 9-4 win over the Legends (2-7). Ramon Corona powered the offense connecting for three homers and drove in five runs while Garrett Baker had a two-run homer and Daniel Turpen picked up the win in relief.

Trailing 4-3, Augusta plated four runs in the seventh inning to take a 7-4 lead. With two outs Corona connected for an RBI triple, Nick Noonan followed with an RBI double then Baker connected for a two-run homer to cap off the scoring.

Augusta took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth on Corona's first home run of the season, a solo homer over the left-field wall.

The Legends plated four runs in the bottom half of the fourth to chase Augusta starter Waldis Joaquin and take a 4-1 lead. The Legends sent all nine batters to the plate and got an RBI single from Craig Corrado, an RBI fielder's choice from Brandon Baker and an RBI single from Kevin Carkeek.

Turpen (1-0) came in and allowed a two-out RBI single from Jonathan Fixler to cap off the scoring for the Legends.

Tupen allowed just two hits over three innings, did not walk a batter and struck out three.

Corona had a solo homer in the sixth inning and a two-run homer in the ninth to cap off the scoring for Augusta at 9-4.

The GreenJackets and Legends continue their series on Saturday night with Augusta sending lefty Madison Bumgarner (0-1, 15.00) to the hill for his second professional start. Lexington counters with righty Colt Adams (0-0, 8.10). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

Game Notes:

Augusta had a season high 9 runs and 15 hits.

Joaquin worked 3.1 and allowed four runs on four hits, walked one and struck out four.

The Augusta bullpen of Turpen, Joe Patterson and Daniel Otero pitched 5.2 shutout innings allowing just two hits, no walks and five strikeouts.
