Holcomb Homers in Tourists 7-2 defeat

Greensboro, NC - Darin Holcomb hit his first homerun of the season and Warren Schaeffer recorded two hits, a stolen base and a walk but Asheville could not overcome an early 5-0 deficit. The Tourists dropped the first game of a four game series to Greensboro on Friday night in front of 7,726 fans at New Bridge Bank Park.

Greensboro (6-3) scored five runs (two earned) in the second inning off starting pitcher Connor Graham (0-2) utilizing three walks and an error in the 7-2 win. Graham finished with 4IP, 5R, 2ER, 4 BB and 2K's in his second start of the season.

Asheville picked up three solid innings of relief from LHP Mathew Reynolds who entered for Graham in the fifth. Reynolds retired the first six batters he faced before allowing a homerun to SS Ozzie Martinez. Greensboro's Ben Lasater would also add a solo shot of his own in the eighth inning off Randall Taylor to extend the lead to 7-2.

The loss marks the first time this season the Tourists have loss consecutive games after winning four in a row and three of four against Kannapolis. The two teams play again tomorrow with Bruce Billings (1-0) getting the start for Asheville. Game time is 7:05 and can be heard on WRES FM or at www.theashevilletourists.com .
