Richmond Roosters News Release

Richmond, Indiana - Richmond rallied from behind again on Tuesday night beating Windy City 14-12. The Roosters scored the last seven runs of the game winning for the third time in the last four games. Joe Rhomberg was substituted late in the game and came up a clutch, two-out, walk-off home run, to win the first game of the series.

The Thunderbolts jumped out quickly with eight runs in the first three innings and 11 over the first five. Jerome McCoy hit a two-run double and a home run by Nick Johnson put the Thunderbolts on top early in the game. The Roosters scored one in the first, but earned most of their runs in the third highlighted by a two-run homer by Tony Sanguinetti and a 2 RBI double by Kevin White. Windy City got one more run in the seventh on a RBI single by Rich Daly but that would be the end of the scoring for the visiting team. The Roosters would score seven runs over the next three innings to eventually take the lead and the win. Sanguinetti would get things started again in the seventh with a three-run shot, his second homer of the game, which scored Joe Cuervo and Kevin White to cut the lead to 12-10. Windy City pitching would blank Richmond in the eighth, but the Roosters had one at-bat left.

Josh Hollingsworth led off the ninth with a double down the left-field line, and then stole third base on a walk to Sanguinetti putting runners at first and third. A wild pitch by Matt Hines brought Hollingsworth in and made it a one run deficit at 12-11. One out and four batters later, Joe Rhomberg stepped to the plate and crushed the ball deep over the right field wall for a three-run walk-off homer to win the game 14-12 in favor of Richmond. The Roosters scored four runs in the inning to earn their 10th win of the season. Jesen Merle earned his second win in 2005, his first with Richmond, while Matt Hines was stuck with his second loss this season. Mike Reese went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Tony Sanguinetti led the team with five RBI, all coming on his two home runs.

With the win on Tuesday night, Chris Mongiardo has now passed Fran Riordan for most wins as a Roosters' Manager with 103. He is now only 62 wins behind John Cate for first.

The Roosters (10-15) will continue the series against Windy City (8-17) on Wednesday. Game time is set for 6:35pm (Indiana time) on Richmond Toyota Baseball Card Night. The first 1,000 fans into McBride Stadium will receive a full color strip of four cards.
